This is a preview you install yourself, and it will not update itself. It is signed with our own key rather than the one Google Play will use. That means when Garly reaches the store, this copy has to be removed and installed once from Play, because Android treats a different signature as a different app. Your account holds your trusted contacts, your places, your routines and your conversations, so signing back in brings all of it with you. Only the settings kept on the phone itself have to be chosen again.
How to install it
- Tap the button above. Your browser will ask whether to keep the file, because it is not from a store.
- Open the downloaded file. Android will ask for permission to install apps from your browser. Grant it, then come back and open the file again.
- Play Protect may pause and say it does not recognise the developer. That message appears for any app installed outside the store. Choose to install anyway if you are happy to.
If Android will not let you
Some phones keep the setting at Settings, Apps, Special app access, Install unknown apps. Find your browser in that list and allow it there.
What Garly asks for, and why

| Location | To send where you are when an alert goes out, and to recognise the places you marked as safe or as worth watching. |
| Microphone | To listen for danger sounds while Protection Mode is on. Sound is analysed on your phone and overwritten every few seconds. Nothing is saved or uploaded unless you also turn on event recording. |
| Physical activity and sensors | To notice falls, sudden jerks, and long stretches without movement. |
| Notifications | The safety check, the countdown, and the permanent notice that stays visible the whole time Protection Mode is armed. |
| Fingerprint or face | Only to unlock the Privacy Lock, if you choose to use it. |
| Run in the background | To keep watching while your screen is off. Android shows a permanent notification whenever this is happening. |
What it does not do
- It does not listen when Protection Mode is off. The microphone opens with it and closes with it.
- It does not record continuously. Only a short clip around a confirmed event, only if you switch that on, kept encrypted on your phone and deleted after 24 hours.
- It does not sell anything about you, and it does not share your location with anyone except the contacts you chose.
